Late night with Jimmy Fallon

First episode (March 2) was definitely entertaining. Guests were Robert De Niro & Justin Timberlake, and The Roots acting as the house band.

Sketch with De Niro presented as a fictional movie they supposedly did together. Plus Fallon did a De Niro impression and De Niro did his Fallon impression. De Niro’s Fallon sounded a little like a bad Joe Pesci impression, but that just made it funnier

Justin brought Jimmy a gift, an autographed picture of Barry Gibb. Then they reminisced about The Barry Gibb Talk Show sketches they did together on SNL, gracing us with an impromptu rendition of the theme song. Then Timberlake also did some impressions, but his were singing impressions – John Mayer and Michael McDonald.

The show also had a very weird contest (Lick It For 10) in which people licked items for $10.

Overall the show was very entertaining, but then again I am a huge Jimmy Fallon fan going in. This first week he is definitely cashing in on his SNL friendships – at least one guest from each night has been a host for SNL, and in some cases both guests. Robert De Niro, Justin Timberlake, Tina Fey, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz, Donald Trump, Drew Barrymore, & Ludacris. Everyone hosted the show during Jimmy’s stint on SNL (1999-2004) except for Ludacris (hosted 11/18/06) & Tina Fey (hosted 2/23/08). Although Tina Fey worked with Jimmy the entire time he was on SNL, and they were my favorite Weekend Update duo since Aykroyd & Curtin.

That’s probably enough about the first show; I’ll write about other shows of his this week in future blogs.
